New Approaches to Shiva
November 10 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Infusing Meaning into a Ritual of Comfort
In this interactive workshop we will begin by quickly asking participants to briefly share their own experiences of Shiva as either mourner or attendee. Participants will be invited to share what their ideal Shiva gathering might include. Rabbi Dan will share insights into how we can engage mourners in creating a Shiva gathering that might better serve their needs. We will also discuss the importance of assessing what might be most appropriate for the community that is gathering. We will brainstorm together how we might reinvent a contemporary Shiva gathering that is more meaningful and spiritually alive as a powerful vehicle for nichum aveilim – providing comfort for the mourners. Rabbi Dan will share innovative ideas that have proven worthy of renewing this ritual.
This workshop is a part of Kavod v’Nichum Gather & Grow Conference in Ojai, CA.
Facilitated by Rabbi Dan Goldblatt.
